Quick Kale and Banana Smoothie

Quick-Kale-and-Banana-Smoothie

Part of my/our challenge in this eating better game is to make sure that there is some form of greenery in at least one of our daily meals, whether it is a green apple or two, romaine lettuce instead of iceburg, spinach or greens. Usually the way that I love and enjoy greens is to have some form of good old fashioned fatty meat mixed in the greens, but for the past 3 weeks since we have had this Blendtec machine we have cut down on the amount of fat and fatty meat that we consume. The Blendtec has served us well so far and today we decided to focus on “kale” as the greenery and then add in other ingredients around it.

This Quick Kale and Banana Smoothie was a total surprise as far as the taste. I must admit that I was a bit concerned with using kale because it is a very strong green and you have to know what you are doing when preparing it. The taste and texture is very different than the traditional collard and mustard greens,  and so after a 2 minute deliberation in my mind, I decided to go ahead and put it in my basket but make sure to get bananas for sweetness.

Between the bananas and kale we will have plenty of Vitamin C, calcium, potassium and Vitamin A and I am almost 80% sure that it will taste good. This recipe has fiber which is said to help when detoxing the body. Kale in addition is said to provide other benefits, like reducing cholesterol levels, zero fat, and high in iron. Lord knows that I personally do not have enough iron in my normal diet, so more smoothies especially with kale and spinach will aid in ensuring that I have the daily amount of iron I need.

This great recipe only has 4 ingredients and the additional ingredients (mixed frozen fruit, apple juice and the bananas of course), were added and blended to the consistency I wanted and viola a quick kale and banana smoothie that contains only 4 ingredients.

The recipe is below:

2 Bananas

1 Cup of Apple Juice

1 Cup of Mixed Tropical Fruit

2 Cups of Kale

This recipe as is, made 2 servings and it was sweet enough as is which was great for me. I love and I mean love sweets, so this recipe will help me not to gain too much weight from all of the flour, butter, and sugar that are usually found in my most favorite dessert recipes because I can just run to this instead. Each time, well almost each time I have a desire to have something sweet I can put these 4 ingredients together and be completely satisfied.

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy it and subscribe for email updates with more smoothie and soup recipes.
