Was the Joy Cafe Indeed a Joy?

Surprises. I just love surprises. At least most of the time I do, but of course only the good kind. Hubster and I are eaters of good food, whether it come from a small diner, greasy spoon or upscale 5 star restaurant just give us time and we will be there. This was not an exception. See what we had the lovely pleasure to experience:

Joy-Cafe-Breakfast

Hubby likes to surprise me with dinner at places that I have never heard of and he successfully did it again. While he was out of town the weekend before, I suppose he decided it was time for us to try something new. He looked and researched and to my surprise the morning he came back from out of town to have me take the driver’s seat and just drive. Rain and all, I was looking around and wondering to myself where is he about to lead me to this time. I can say that he has not disappointed ever,  so I should not have worried, but just a little piece of me was wondering why in the world are we going so far away, so far that we needed the GPS. We ended up in a quaint neighborhood in Buckhead Atlanta which by myself I do not venture to often, because to drive you almost have to know or at least act like you know what you are doing when driving in most parts of Atlanta or people will know that you are not from here:)

We parked and came upon a restaurant that was in a strip mall which I totally did not expect. I guess I expected it to be on the corner next to the higher price district of Buckhead. I was glad it wasn’t because of our Saturday attire, we fit in perfectly. The restaurant had what I would call a backyard deck furniture feel and it was a bit tight in there but not until an hour later did we see exactly how tight it was in there.

Butterflies-and-dessert

We were immediately greeted and given a table near the what I would call the dessert/baked good area which, no, I did not touch because I was actually full and did not want to overstuff myself. We looked at the menu and had to resist the urge to over order and as we looked at others’ plates as they were passing by we made a final selection.

You see in his research he found that this restaurant indeed was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives this year and yes I can see why after trying our food, but I digress, we chose:

Me: Steak and Egg Tacos

Steak-and-Egg-TacosHim: Biscuit and Sawmill Gravy

Biscuit-and-Sawmill-GravyWe enjoyed each others meals as we savored every bite. We will be coming back to try other menu items maybe items available after 11:00 am, however we were warned to come early because it does fill up and it certainly did.

Sooooo, back to the question at hand. Was the Joy Cafe indeed a joy? Yes, it was a joy and I saw nothing but joy on everyone’s faces that were in the building from the chef, servers and patrons and that alone will keep us coming back.

Have you been to Joy Cafe or another restaurant that we need to try let me know.
