Bun Mi: Best Vietnamese Cuisine in Atlanta

Thankful to being a member of Atlanta Food and Lifestyle Blogger’s Society, who help set up this wonderful experience, we were able to chose an entrée, drink and spring roll each.

Healthy and authentic Vietnamese food that will keep calling you back is how I would describe Bun Mi. This simply decorated Vietnamese restaurant can be found in Buckhead Atlanta. It has such cute light fixtures and simple plants found on each table, but don’t you fear, you will find all of the fine and intricate details in all of the food.

I enjoyed hearing Thao, the wife of the husband and wife duo, describe the process they go through daily to select the bread and what herbs are used in each dish, I hated that I did not have a tape recorder to record her sharing love for cooking and preparing Vietnamese food. You can tell that her and her husband made the right decision in starting this business and you will agree once you experience the food.

“This all started from a love of cooking for my family”, Thao mentioned to us and we walked in her establishment last Saturday morning. We felt special since we were the 1st guests and were greeted by Thao. Every guest after that received the, “ Welcome to Bun Mi!”, greeting which is a great touch.

From the decision to use lemongrass in a dish to goji berry powder found in some of the sauces you will fall in love and imagine that you are in Thao’s home breaking bread with her and her family.

The menu seems simple, but it is not. We found ourselves taking the time to look at the descriptions probably as long as the care and thought that was put into each dish.

Each dish was delicious and I am not just saying that. This is the first time that we have had (authentic) Vietnamese food and I have suggested strongly especially to my coworkers that they need to try Bun Mi. They will not be disappointed and will be back, but I should have told them that they need to tell me so that we all can go back together.

The food was prepared and was brought to our table and we were so eager to dig in, but hubby knows the drill, so he waited patiently as I took pictures. Once I finished and took my first bite, which was of his sandwich, we decided within our heads to slow down. We did not want to miss a thing. The beef was so tender and seasoned perfectly and I enjoyed the crunchy on the outside bread and so soft on the inside (obtained fresh daily and larger than the buns at the rest of the Vietnamese restaurants).

The shrimp in the Tom-Bowl was seasoned well (garlic and herb) and I enjoyed every part of it. One sip of the Orange Passionfruit Juice with Chia Seeds I was hooked, and to be honest, I had to get used to the Chia Seeds in the drink but I found myself forgetting they were there.

I felt better knowing that I was eating some food items that had ingredients that I could pronounce and had no MSG in it. Thao shared that this is one ingredient that you will never find in their food. They are here for all of us, from those who want great priced Vietnamese cuisine, health conscious people, gluten free and everyone in between.
