Aldi Grocery Store vs Sprouts Farmers Market

Thank you for tuning into another episode of Try Something New Tuesdays and this time I decided to try out this new market in my area called Sprouts. To be honest, it is not quite in my area. It is actually 45 minutes away, so yes, I am going to make it my goal to help the store realize that they need to have one in my area. Hubby and I are on this healthier eating kick, so I said this is perfect timing because I need to go shopping and try something new at the same time.

Anywho, the first thing that I noticed that it was clean and the first part of the store is the health and beauty section on the left with the checkout to the right. Before get in the store they make it perfectly clear that there is no video and photos to be taken while in the store and that is why I did not take any pics in the store.

They have a prepared foods section, but the selection seemed limited (beans and mac n cheese) and rotisserie chicken. I am sure that there is properly some prepared, but I did not see it in the prepared hot section.

There was a small and nice variety of baked goods and breads. My sweet tooth was calling, but I decided not to partake in any sweets which was not as bad as I thought (go figure).  There is a meat section which had organic and non-organic choices as well. There was a wine and spirits section which was maybe the size of 2 average size cubicles.

To my surprise I look over and see a gentleman doing what, making sushi near the deli section of the store which totally put me in mind of Whole Foods and Kroger put together but much smaller.

The fruit/vegetable section was I believe the most prominent (hence the name) Sprouts Farmers Market and I did manage to make my way there and found a couple of items that I wanted on sale and in particular spaghetti squash and gala apples. I checked out and proceeded to my staple store, Aldi which is much closer to me.

Lookie lookie, what I see gala apples on sale and spaghetti squash which are two items I purchased at Sprouts because I was not sure that Aldi had them. I looked at the prices and found that I should have just waited and purchased the items from here.

Which-is-the-better-deal?

See video below for the comparison between Aldi vs Sprouts on the spaghetti squash:

As you heard the squash from Aldi costs a lot less per pound when doing the math. Aldi as well was the better deal in the Gala Apples department as well.  .98 cent per pound at Sprouts and .65 per pound at Aldi. The spaghetti squash at Sprouts was .88 cent per pound and .60 cent per pound at Aldi. Here are some quick pluses and minus of both stores:

I hope this helps and what I found for the most part Aldi is best for vegetables and fruit as far as price. The chicken thighs were on sale at Sprouts for .69 cents a pound and Aldi did not have thighs on sale this week, but they had boneless chicken breast that was marked down and it averaged $1.17 a pound. Planning ahead helps you save the most money and using coupons when applicable.
