Faith, Family, and an Unstoppable Bond: The Short Game Movie Review
One of my favorite things to do is watch upcoming movies with a lesson that is uplifting and appropriate for all ages. And when a movie comes along that also teaches a powerful lesson, that’s a true win in my book.
That’s why I’m so excited to share with you about The Short Game, coming to theaters August 29th. Many thanks to The Short Game movie and Momentum Influencer Network for providing me with an advanced screening. As always, opinions are my own.
About the Film
Jeremy Avery is working hard to earn a college golf scholarship by winning the State Championship. But life throws him some unexpected challenges. On top of preparing for the big tournament, Jeremy is also caring for his younger autistic brother, Ethan. The weight of family responsibilities, the intensity of competition, and the pressure of carrying his team collide—pushing Jeremy into a journey of discovery. Along the way, he begins to recognize his brother’s extraordinary gifts, and together they may just become an unstoppable team. But in the end, Jeremy faces a heart-wrenching choice: chase his own dream or stand by his brother.
Why This Movie Moved Me
This film holds a very special place in my heart. Having worked with children with special needs myself, the story of Jeremy and Ethan deeply resonated with me. The bond they share, the challenges they face, and the way Ethan’s uniqueness is embraced reminded me so much of the children I’ve had the privilege to work with. It’s rare to see such a heartfelt and respectful portrayal of special needs on screen, and this movie captured it beautifully.
More Than Just a Sports Movie

I love films that weave together different layers, and The Short Game does just that. Yes, it’s a sports movie (and I’ll admit, I love a good competition!), but it’s also a story about faith, family, resilience, and sacrifice. While it has its heavy moments, it’s also lighthearted, funny, and full of warmth. The golfing scenes—even though golf isn’t usually my sport—were exciting and well done. What really stood out to me were the relationships, both between the characters themselves and in their walk with God.
I’ll be honest, there were moments that brought tears to my eyes, and others that had me cheering right along with the characters. That balance of joy, faith, and heartfelt emotion is exactly what makes The Short Game a truly great family movie.

It looks like a good movie, one that we all in this house, would sit together to watch.
